Fashion Beginnings

My fashion blog. Here to show off new trends, or what I am into. I will post outfits I have chosen on a weekly basis. Enjoy!

Little-bitty Valentine

Hello my followers!

For Valentine’s Day weekend, my family went out to the beach to celebrate my grandma’s 80th birthday. It ended up being a nice day in my college town before I left for the beach, and all of my roommates were wearing dresses that day, so I did as well! Although I normally do not obsess over this holiday, I did feel like dressing up a bit would be fun! The beach was quite opposite weather-wise. It was windy and rainy all weekend; and the windows would shake because of how windy it was.

I am taking a photography class that uses film cameras, so I took it along with me for the weekend and took some pictures. I am quite amateur I would say! I added a few pictures from last weeks assignment for the class so you can see what I am doing. I took pictures while they were still wet—if you are curious about that!

So for the outfit choice!!!!

I wanted a dressy, yet casual look so I paired my H&M spotted dress with a pink Mossimo Supply Co. belt from Target. It was a bit chilly out, so I wanted to add my jean jacket from Old Navy with a pair of simple flats from Urban Outfitters. Lastly, a simple necklace my boyfriend made to add a little “bling.”

I know I may be cutting this short, but I have a lot of homework to do.

But before I go, I have the opportunity to study abroad and am saving up for it. If you are interested in helping me to achieve my goal of $2,100, you can check out the site (which I promise you is a safe site!):

Have a fabulous week!

Hey guys!

School just never seems to stop being crazy! Recently I found out I have the chance to go on a Juniors Abroad trip from Rome to Paris! I am super excited to have this opportunity!
Unfortunately, I do not have enough money to go, so I have been working more, as well as coming up with ways to fundraise. I also started a fund on fundly.com, so if you are interested in helping support me, or want to read more about it, here is where you can go to check it out or give money if you want to do that as well:

I am a Vice President of a Fashion Club at my school and recently helped plan some upcoming events for our club along with fellow officers. We have a blog we each will be posting on and updating people about what the club is doing, fashion and also fitness exercises you can do here:

I am hoping we can start to get more students to join our Fashion Club who also love it as much as we do!

Now For what I am sure you have been waiting to read: The brands and inspiration for my outfit!
For this outfit, I was inspired by a friend of mine who contacted me in need of some styling help the other day. She was not sure if she should go with the skinny jeans, and boyfriend tee, or try for a different outfit completely. Seeing her options brought this inspiration and made me want to go for a more edgy look today. This style makes me think of something you could wear out to a concert or even just for everyday wear like I did.
I chose to pair my Urban Outfitter shoes, with a pair of Forever 21 skinny jeans. Both black, they were able to help bring the attention and focus to my boyfriend tee from Converse. I added a Mossimo Supply Co. jean button-up top from #Target to help add a little bit to the outfit. This was something that was easy to wear to my classes that involved draping a dress form, and developing film in a darkroom. I am not the type to wear sweatpants to class, but this was something that could give me that same relaxed feel, yet still be stylish!

Roses Are Red…
Hello everyone!
It has been so long since I have posted, but school has been a killer! I also recently was sick for a few weeks and laid in bed watching Netflix 90% of the time. Anyway, I chose to wear some items I myself created and sewed together. For my sewing class this past semester we made a skirt, shirt and tote bag. Now I hated the skirt so I chose to throw it in the back of my closet and never wear it! But the shirt was something I absolutely love and wear all the time! I had a ton of fabric left over that I thought it would be neat to make a skirt out of the same material because I love the rose design and just the way the fabric feels.
When it came time to make a tote bag, the professor said it had to coordinate with the clothing line we had started already (the shirt and skirt), so I chose to use a red corduroy fabric. Now, normally, I am not the type to wear corduroy, but for this bag I think it works. I managed to still have enough rose fabric left to use on my tote bag and chose to create a sort of rim so it can work with my shirt or my skirt! I thought it would be great to incorporate the theme of roses into the bag to help pull in the bag better basically.

Now on to the rest of my look!
I chose to add a black cardigan from H&M to keep it casual yet give it a little bit of a dressy look. The bracelet is from Africa that was made by women over there. They take pieces of paper and roll them up into beads and make bracelets! I love that it is handmade yet looks great with any sort of outfit I may choose to wear!
Lastly, for the simple pieces that you always have to wear, I added a simple cami and a pair of black heels to finish my look.
It is easy to throw a look together when you have inspiration. Luckily I saw my skirt next to a white shirt in the closet and my inspiration for this look began!
I will try to keep updating this more often.

Alexandra

You Had Me At Taco
Happy late Halloween! I have been working hard on putting together costumes for my roomate and I. In September, my roommate found a picture of girls dressed up as Taco Bell hot sauce and she really wanted to do it. Being the fashion designer I am, I was up for a challenge! I was not sure how I was going to go about creating these costumes because I did not have a pattern but honestly, a lot of my creations were not made with patterns. I do not like patterns that much.
It took a while for me to get to it and create the outfits, and I waited until a week before Halloween. I had my roommate write up the hot sauce phrases while I sewed so she could also take some credit! I was honestly getting annoyed by the end and wanted to just get the costumes done. So they did not completely turn out how I wanted, but they were good enough to get comments from people all around!
I enjoy testing out my skills and learning from my experiences for the future. I know for next time I will start a lot earlier, and make sure to truly take time as I do it. I want to challenge you if you are a sewer, to create something without a pattern! It may be “out of your element” to do such a thing, but it is a great challenge.

I Cat Hear You

Well, the weather has been getting chilly recently! A lot of fog, and cold nights around here and yet the sun some how finds a way to peek out of the clouds midday to say hello.

Because the weather seems to be chilly thought, I thought of something warm a fuzzy…a cat! I love cats. If I could buy every garment at Target with cats on it I would because they have some pretty cute stuff right now! I saw this dress and just had to buy it! I am the type of person that if I see something that I absolutely love, but it is more than budget allows for, I still buy it. Probably not a good thing, but I cannot help it!

I have learned that it is so easy to take different garments and put them together with almost any outfit in your closet and still be able to create a new look! You don’t always have to have the newest items in your wardrobe, even though it is nice to have new things. I still find ways to pair my garments in new ways, creating new fun looks like this!

Here is how I see it:

In my very first post, I used my H&M cardigan and Mossimo Black high heeled boots, which are two simple items that can be used with most any outfit. My cat dress, I have worn with my H&M cardigan before and boots. This time I chose to add a belt for my accessory. I felt like today was more of a simple day so I did not want to overpower the outfit with a lot of jewelry.

So what did my outfit consist of? I paired my H&M Black Cardigan with my Target Xhilaration Cat Dress and accented it with a JcPenny’s Plain Waist Belt. Since it has been a bit chilly, I used my Loft Tights with my Target Mossimo Black High Heeled Boots.

I hope that you all will enjoy the rest of your day, or night, depending on when you read this!

Hey girlie!

Just saw this. Thank you so much! I am trying to do good :) If you see anything I could change, or ways to make it better let me know! Hope everything is going well for you!

I Believe In These Circumstances

Hello my lovelies!

Well today has been quite an interesting day! I am so excited that fall is here because layering is one of my favorite things to do! I also noticed that I am Target crazed; or so it seems. I feel like each post I make incorporates at least one item from Target. Ever since I was little I have been obsessed with the store…so much that I work there!

Today I paired a new favorite chiffon shirt of mine: a Target Mossimo Black Flowy button up top I bought this past summer. I paired it with a simple cami underneath that helped give it a casual feel, yet a little dressed up when I chose to add the flowy top. I also like to show off my femininity sometimes by using the tighter fitting tops and then make it more modest with a flowy top or sweater on top. In a way, I guess the more I think about it, I could say I incorporated aspects of both male and female styles in this outfit.

This was my first time wearing shorts and tights together in an ensemble of mine. I used a pair of my American Eagle high waisted shorts with a pair of tights from Loft. And of course I wore my new favorite shoes from Target; my Mossimo Supply Co. Khalea Combat Boots!

I would say this is a great outfit for a day out with your friends, shopping or going to school. It is casual, and comfy. I would recommend wearing a pair of high socks like in the photos because it really helps make the outfit. If I had not added them, I think the outfit would look a bit weird.

I also love incorporating my nails somehow to accent my outfits. I chose to use black and to make it a bit artsy, I added silver dots and some silver sparkles. I would call that my “bling” in this outfit. And let’s not forget my hair which I chose a bun! It is simple and easy to do you guys. It can be made in many different ways and can work with any outfit if you want it to! I felt like this outfit would not look right if I had my hair down, so I chose a high bun.

Tips: If you ever want to try wearing shorts like this during the colder seasons, my advice would be to make sure you have some sort of looser fitting top above. It helps to balance out the outfit when your lower half is already heavy with all of the layers.

Well, I think it is about time for me to sleep! Sorry I took so long to post this.

Remember to never let someone tell you who you should be. If you want to be a doctor, then go be a doctor. If you want to be a designer, then be a designer. Those are two big careers that are both needed in this world in order for humans to survive. So if anyone ever tells you that something you are wanting to do for the rest of your life is never going to make you money, or that you are wasting your time, don’t listen! Follow your heart and do what you want to do, not what others want you to.

That’s my two cents for the night.

Alexandra

Part of Me

All the hustle and bustle of Portland Fashion Week has made it hard to get this blog post up… But Honestly, I am loving this! I have been having a blast, and I will be sure to post pictures once we finish. I have been meeting amazing people like David Tupaz, who I worked with last night by helping dress his models. He was such an amazing guy! I met other designers too, and am making great connections. I would definitely recommend any of you fashionistas to get involved in a fashion show at least once in your life!

So for the outfit I wore yesterday, I paired my JcPenny’s Arizona jean button up top with my Forever 21 Black basic tank top. I chose to add a little bit of fun to my look by adding my Target Xhilaration Juniors Ivory Printed Legging—which if you love them as much as I do, you can still purchase them on Target’s website! For my shoes, I chose my Target Mossimo Supply Co. Khalea Combat Boots. I honestly cannot get enough of these boots! I work at Target and have had my eye on them for as long as they have been out and was finally able to purchase them!

Also, if you have noticed, I have a lot of Target clothing…why? Because ever since I was little I have been obsessed with Target! Mossimo Black is my favorite brand for more dressy looks, Mossimo Supply Co. is my favorite for more casual or fun looks, as well as Xhilaration. I love my H&M and Forever 21, but Target is just my go to for life!!!

I want to leave you with a quote:

"The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world."

Urban Docks
Hello everyone!
Hope your day was splendid! I am a volunteer at PortlandNXT for Portland’s Fashion Week. For orientations I chose to pair a black infinity scarf with my gray sleeveless jersey dress; both from H&M, my new jean button up top from JcPenny’s brand: Arizona. Being that the fall season has finally come around, I wanted to add some color to the look with some Old Navy red tights. and my Mossimo Supply Co. Khalea Combat Boots.
I like to show off that you really do not need all the money in the world to still look cute and fabulous! It also is not bad to splurge a bit here and there ;)
Anyway, comment if you like, but I will see you cats later! Enjoy your night and remember this:

P.S. I will begin to post my lookbook.nu photos at the top each time I update my page. So please please please go and help me gain some hype! You guys are awesome :)

On The Edge

My choice today was this dark, edgy look. I paired a tunic I purchased at Target along with a black cardigan from H&M. Leggings and black boots to help add to the outfit. I wanted to make my upper body the focus which included my face and wrist where my jewelry is. I chose a bracelet from Target that is gold, silver and black with fake diamonds, along with gold, black and silver hoops with fake diamonds. If I could afford some real diamonds, I would have them by now! I love looking fabulous so I don’t mind adding a pair of heels to an outfit.
